Inside tips from Kimberlin Education’s Directors to grow your business
Who doesn’t want to know the best educational related tips and practices that Marketing and Educational Directors Danielle and Naomi shared with Heads over Heels?
Find out how Danielle and Naomi have grown Kimberlin’s innovative education program business since their presentation at Head over Heels in 2016.
WHAT’S YOUR COMPANY’S POINT OF DIFFERENCE?
Kimberlin Education is a different kind of creative agency with a mission to make a difference to young people by connecting students and teachers in the classroom with some of the most well known Australian organisations to show them the real world application of what they are learning.
We strongly believe that educating our next generation of Australians needs a holistic approach, where we support our teachers to connect to experts outside the classroom who can help our students develop the skills they need for the future.
Large corporate organisations, government departments, not for profits and industry bodies all work with us to develop educational programs and communication campaigns to enrich the education of pre, primary and high school students.
HOW DID HEAD OVER HEELS PROVIDE PRACTICAL SUPPORT?
Heads Over Heads were absolutely amazing in so many ways in helping us prepare for our presentation. They worked with us to refine our pitch and coached us on how best to tell our story, as well as be clear on what we needed for the next steps of our growth. But it didn’t stop at just that one event. They have also been instrumental in supporting us to find the right advisors we need for our business and are continually inviting us to educational events to help us upskill.
WHAT IS THE SINGLE BIGGEST THING THAT HELPED YOU GROW?
By far and away the singles biggest thing that has helped us to grow has been building our network and nurturing those relationships. We still continue to engage with the connections we received through our Heads Over Heel event, and by building those relationships over time they have had the opportunity to know our business and then they refer us on to others.
WHO OR WHAT WERE YOUR “CONNECTIONS FOR GROWTH”?
We were very lucky to receive offer 70 offers for growth on our showcase day and many more have been given at every Heads Over Heels event we have attended since. These connections have been crucial for us to get a foot in the door with organisations who hadn’t heard of us previously but were looking for the services we offer. One of our most exciting connections was with EY, who we became Alliance Partner with, working together on a number of fantastic educational training and development projects with Departments of Education.
WHAT ONE THING WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?
Oh this is a tricky question! There are so many things I think we would do differently, over the last five years. When you are running and growing a business, every day is a learning lesson. Maybe take on a little less. There were times when we wanted to do everything but you find out the hard way it’s just not possible.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER THE WOMEN FOLLOWING YOU?
The first step is the hardest! Making the decision to build a business and a team is one of the biggest things you can decide to do. You have to be in it for the long haul as it’s definitely a marathon rather than a sprint. You need to surround yourself with amazing people to support you along the way.
Commit to the choice, back yourself and take the leap, and look forward to the most amazing journey.
ANYTHING ELSE?
To enable your business to achieve it’s vision and purpose, it is crucial that you share the value you offer to both your clients, and end users. Heads Over Heels offers a huge amount of support and advice to help you achieve this and we are exceptionally grateful for the support of the HOH team and the whole of the wider network.
