School is changing: What does it mean for your resources?
School is changing: What does it mean for your resources?
Things are changing in the Australian Educational landscape which could mean that classroom resources offered by external organisations quickly become irrelevant and out of date. Don’t worry, read on to find out what’s going on and how you can still achieve cut-through in a new curriculum.
What’s Happening?
- The Australian Curriculum, the framework from which classroom teachers structure in-class teaching and learning across the country, is being updated as we speak. The last review was in 2014.
- The review is in consultancy with educational professionals, teaching staff and the general public.
- A new national curriculum will be piloted at the start of the 2022 school year.
What changes will we see in the classroom?
- Less content – some duplicated or inappropriate content will be removed from the curriculum
- More guidance for teachers on what learning progressions look like. This will be skills-based, rather than content-based
- Need for flexible resources that reflect agile teaching and learning relevant to individual students’ needs
- Stronger interconnection with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures
What does this mean for my resources?
- Existing resources may need to be updated in terms of their proposed learning intentions and curriculum links
- New resources created will need to support the needs of a modern classroom and encourage the development of 21st century skills
- Programs will need to show a skills-based approach that reflects classroom best practice
- Content may need to be updated to show a relevance or relationship to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures
Next Steps?
- Carry out an audit on your current resources
- Update your resources to better appeal to teachers and students
